What camera do I use?

When people see some of my pictures, I'm often asked "What camera do you use?" or "Did you take these with your phone?". (The latter question is usually asked with a disbelieving look on their face.)

No, I don't use my cell phone. What I do is carry around a Sony A7RIII and a few lenses that are appropriate for the situation.

Why Sony? I used to shoot Canon and they take great photos as well. Honestly, nearly any camera will take good photographs so don't get too caught up in the hype. I made the switch originally because I liked the smaller size of the mirrorless cameras and some other features like the electronic view finder. At the time, Sony had the best mirrorless cameras and I believe still do. That being said, the other manufacturers have recently released their own mirrorless cameras and those produce great photos as well.

I tend to shoot probably 80% of my photos with the Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GM lens. It's a great all around focal length and aperture. Other lenses that I use include the Sony 85mm f1.8 or Sony 55mm f1.8 for portraits. I use the Sony 70-200mm f2.8 GM and Sony 100-400mm f3.5-5.6 GM when I need a longer lens. (I also use the Sony 1.4x teleconverter for just a bit more reach.) I also have the Sony 12-24mm f4 wide angle for landscapes or some architecture, and the Sony 90mm macro lens for the close up detail shots. (It works well as a portrait lens in a pinch as well!)

For flash, I use the Godox line of flashes for their price/value ratio and reliability.

I also have a variety of tripods, backpacks, filters, etc. Drop me a note if you have any questions on these.

Thanks!

Mark and I have been good friends for a long time, and I have admired his photography for years. But the photos here just blow me away -- they are over the top amazing. I'm privileged to have seen his incredible growth as a photographer over the years. Mark, this web site is just amazing. Great job!
